Mavora Explorer - Placemakers Te Anau 53km MTB event
This is a challenging ride through specatacular back country covering a variety of terrain, up and along ridges, through fords and over the Mararoa River, on a 4WD track, grass and clay tracks. Riders get to enjoy a special beech forest circuit. There will be an aid station/check point after the half way point, it will have available:
Self service water
First Aid
An enjoyable ride for the experienced competitor. Allow 3-5 hours to complete this event. (A great warm up for the Hawea Epic!)
NB: This ride includes a crossing of the Mararoa River. Appropriate safety measures will be in place to ensure riders cross the river safely. In the event of extreme weather conditions that prevent the safe crossing of the river, riders will turn around at the Mararoa River and back track to cross the Mararoa Bridge. They will then use the Mavora Lakes Road to return up the other side of the river to continue the ride. (Please note this alternative route increases the ride by 18kms)
Previous Competitors Comments:
I competed in the big ride last year and have nothing but praise for the entire ride and organisation. From the ear splitting cannon to the end. It was a challenging ride and think the 30km option may suit some. From a spectator point we were very impressed with the names of incoming riders being radioed through as competitors were coming down the paddock. Keep up the good work looking forward to next one. - Brett McIntyre
Thanks for organising a great Mountain bike ride, I thoroughly enjoyed it, especialy the finishing part. - Ross
